It's safe to say that Three To Get Ready is our most
successful record. People really seemed to connect with the songs on this record
because of its nostalgic and emotional subject matter. The term "pop-punk"
didn't apply to us anymore (and was often taken as an insult). We were now described as an
"emo-core" band. It seemed as if a broader spectrum of kids embraced this
record. Most of the songs on 3TGR were written during a reflective period after the death of our drummer and great friend, Bob Binckley. We took a long break to deal with our loss but finally began to write songs again. A lot of the material was already written on four track before we were ready to function as a band again. Eventually, drummer Phil Hanson joined the band. Things went quickly from there. We played a lot of shows and got the songs ready to record. Again, we went back to our home away from home, For The Record studio. We broke the recording up into two sessions, recording 8 songs each time. If you listen closely, you can tell which songs came out of each session by the snare drum sound. Mixing was especially tiresome. We ended up with at least 5 mixes of each song (some of which came later after producer E, stayed up an entire extra night mixing and re-mixing and called us the next day to come down and listen). We got a lot of mileage off of this record; a 6 week U.S. tour in the spring of '96 including a 10 day stint with Texas is the Reason (some of our best tour memories) and a lengthy 8 week summer tour of Europe (by far, our worst). Limited pressing on purple marble and aqua colored vinyl. |
