Last Time is by far our best and favorite record to date. It marks the beginning of a more
"mature" Gameface sound. The addition of the second guitar really opened up
creative doors. We had always thought that we should never record anything that we
couldn't reproduce live. Earlier records sound a bit simpler because of this. ELT
has all of the extra "guitar candy" that we had always wanted to include but
were never able to get away with. Along with the maturation of the guitar playing and
songwriting, the lyrical content is a bit more honest. I always look at each record as a
documentation of a period of time. These songs mark a very important one for me. We
spent the better part of a year with this recording. We started in March of '98 (just
after my wedding) at a new environment (Grandmaster Recorders in Los Angeles) with a new
producer, Jim Monroe. We unintentionally broke the recording up into stages. After 4
days at Grandmaster we had only bass and drum tracks finished. Then we went on a 5 week
tour of the states. We spent the end of the summer working on guitar tracks at For The
Record. Most of the vocals were recorded at Jim's home studio, Basura De Blanco. Taking so
much time between sessions made it seem to go on forever. Finally around Christmastime, we
booked a four day block at Cherokee Studio in Hollywood to mix. As usual we could've used a few extra days but we ended up with the best sounding Gameface album yet. "With vocalist Jeff Caudill now doing double duty on guitar, the band's sound has become bigger and more textured...Not only is the music stronger and more mature, so too are the lyrics. But in making more "grown up" music, Gameface hasn't sacrificed any of the edge that gave their previous releases their impact; this is most definitely a band with it's roots firmly in the Orange County punk scene. They've simply chosen to take their music to another level. And if you're wise, you'll follow them." - EXCLAIM Magazine (Canada) First 200 pressed on clear vinyl. |
