I remember writing a few of these songs during our European
tour. It was a trying two months. Vegan gruel, poop shelves, squats, language barriers,
carbonated water, broken glass and overall disregard for personal hygiene really took its
toll on us. When we got home we took a short break to recuperate. During this period, we
reevaluated what was important to us as a band. After a lot of discussion, the three of us
decided that Phil didn't share our vision. Steve had been a friend of the band for a while. We had played a few shows with his band and labelmates, Brown Lobster Tank. We all knew he was a kick-ass drummer and a really nice guy. He was the first name that came up when we started to look for someone. Due to the turmoil that BLT was going through, he was more than happy to jam with us. Things really fell into place after only a couple practices with him. Almost simultaneously, BLT called it quits which made it an easy transition for Steve. Cupcakes was recorded within two months of Steve joining the band. He brought a new energy to Gameface. We decided to record an EP to get some new material out because we were eager to hit the road again. We returned to For The Record and ended up having our smoothest recording experience to date. This is some of our most "accessable pop" sounding material we've done. I really felt like these were songs that everyone could enjoy. We also took the opportunity to pay homage to our favorite 80's new wave band, The Psychedelic Furs. A short, fun and highly successful U.S. tour followed the release of Cupcakes. First pressing on red vinyl. |
